Chocolate and mint. Name a more iconic duo, we’ll wait! Cocoa mint tea is a classic. It’s simple but spectacular, and it can even satisfy your sweet tooth – no need to eat a whole pint of mint chocolate chip ice cream! Actually, maybe we’ll make a cup of cocoa mint kratom tea and have some ice cream…
Cocoa mint tea is one of the most popular kratom tea recipes we’ve crafted. It only has 4 ingredients: kratom tea, cocoa powder, mint leaves, and a hint of sweetener. Plus, there are a lot of possible substitutions that you can try depending on what ingredients you’ve got at home.
Chocolate, Mint, and Kratom Substitutions
Fresh mint: There are many varieties of mint, even one known as chocolate mint! Any of them will work in this recipe, though peppermint is a tried and true choice. If you don’t have any fresh mint leaves, you can use a drop of peppermint extract instead.
Cocoa powder: This recipe uses Dutch-process cocoa powder to add rich chocolate flavor to kratom tea, but you can easily substitute it for natural cocoa powder, cacao powder, or even cacao nibs. To substitute cacao nibs, you’ll want to steep about 1 tbsp nibs with your tea bags in the saucepan or thermos, and then strain them out before serving.
Kratom tea: Use whichever strain of kratom tea you prefer! One of our favorites for this recipe is the Sweet Dragon Honeybush herbal blend. Honeybush adds a hint of sweetness to the tea, so we typically use half the sweetener when we brew cacao mint kratom tea with Sweet Dragon.

Cocoa Mint Kratom Tea
Prep Time: 3 minutes
Brew Time: 20 minutes
Servings: 1
Ingredients
- 1 Sweet Dragon tea bag (or your preferred type/strain of kratom tea)
- 1.5 cups water (1 cup for thermos brew)
- 2 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 sprig of mint or 1 drop peppermint extract
- Extra sweetener (optional): 1/2 tsp stevia or 2 tsp coconut sugar, more or less to taste
Stovetop Directions
- Add kratom tea bags and water to a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a low simmer. Cover and keep over heat for 10-15 minutes.
- If using fresh mint: remove lid and add in sprig of mint, then continue to heat on low for 5 minutes.
- Remove mint and tea bag. Add cocoa powder, sweetener, and peppermint extract (if using) and stir to combine.
Thermos Directions
- Place tea bag into your thermos and add boiling water. Steep for 10-15 minutes.
- Add sprig of mint (if using) and continue to steep for 7 more minutes.
- Remove mint and tea bag. Add cocoa powder, sweetener, and peppermint extract (if using) and stir to combine.
Notes
Kratom tea bags: You don’t have to use honeybush kratom tea for this recipe – any kratom tea vein color/strain will work! The honeybush strain is slightly lighter and sweeter than a full-kratom tea, so you may want to adjust the amount of sweetener you use if you swap it out.
