Kratom Tea Basics

Kratom is the common name of Mitragyna speciosa, a tree native to Southeast Asia. In Thailand and other nearby regions, people have traditionally brewed tea using kratom leaves, or plucked the leaves off of the trees and chewed on them. This has been done for hundreds (possibly even thousands) of years.

In the United States, many people buy kratom in the form of powder or extracts. At Top Tree, we’re going back to the roots: we think that kratom is best when made into tea—no swallowing powder or chugging extracts. Our kratom tea can be brewed into a normal cuppa that you can have at work, at home, or anywhere else.

Every person is different, and the type of kratom tea that each person should drink is a truly individual question. There isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer to what type of kratom tea will be best for you. That being said, vein color and serving size are each factors in determining how kratom will benefit you.

Generally, people drink white vein kratom tea for energy and mood boosts. People typically drink red vein kratom teas for relaxation and bodily effects. Green veins are an intermediate option between white and red.

While vein colors are associated with these varying benefits, serving size may play a large role as well. Smaller serving sizes have been used to produce energizing effects, while larger serving sizes have been used to promote relief from bodily aches and improve socializing.

Kratom tea can be as light or as strong as you want it to be, depending upon how you brew it!

It’s like the black coffee or café au lait of the kratom world—it’s not as strong as a triple espresso or a caffeine pill, which means you’ll get the kratom benefits you love without easily overdoing it. You can always resteep your tea bags or brew another cup to get the effects you’re looking for.

Nope! Kratom doesn’t contain any caffeine, but it can support your morning energy and motivation just like a cup of coffee! The effects of kratom typically don’t last as long as coffee, which is why it’s a great alternative that you can drink later in the day.

To get these wake-up-and-get-moving benefits, we recommend drinking a smaller serving of kratom tea. Larger servings of kratom tea typically provide more relaxing and relieving effects.

How Top Tree Stands Out

Always! We make all of our certificates of analysis available for you to view whenever we create a new batch of tea. View our COAs here.

Top Tree Herbs uses only cGMP-certified kratom, lab tested by a third party. We exceed the standards of the American Kratom Association for Good Manufacturing Practices, and are proud to have been the first kratom company to do a multi-panel test to determine the profile of eight different alkaloids in our kratom. We care deeply about the quality and safety of our products, and are committed to providing kratom that is free of heavy metals and other contaminants.

If you’ve been a long-time fan of kratom, you may have noticed that the effects of a particular strain (like Green Elephant, or Red Bali) aren’t always consistent between batches or when purchased from different companies.

There are a lot of claims made about how kratom leaf strains are determined, from their countries of origin to their genetics to their physical descriptions. However, for the most part, these claims aren’t based in fact—they’re just myths used for marketing purposes, and they’re often deceptive and unreliable.

Kratom strains don’t tell you as much about what your kratom’s effects will be as other important factors, like the alkaloid profile or the serving size. That’s why our newest kratom teas don’t have strain names.

Read more about Top Tree’s decision to stop using kratom strain names here.

Our tea is ethically sourced from the tropical forests of Indonesia by farmers who receive fair compensation. We’re committed to transparency in our process, so you know exactly what you’re filling your mug with. Cheers to better brewing, and brewing with the best!
